Best Bets: Drawing up the weekend

Grab a glass of water and draw up the weekend plans as some fun-filled days are ahead. With the Water Festival, a drawing class, some great food and polka music, everyone can enjoy the weekend and maybe even learn a thing or two.

1. Introduction to drawing: teens and adults

2. Clean Water Festival/Evening Concert: Peter Mayer

7-8 p.m., Thursday, Ruby Rupner Auditorium Jay C. Hormel Nature Center

Minnesotan Peter Mayer writes songs for a small planet about inter-connectedness and the human journey, and about the beauty and the mystery of the world. His music brings people beyond the every-day song to a place of wonder at the very fact of life itself. The program is free and open to the public. 3. Rose Creek Fun Days

All day, Friday-Sunday, Rose Creek

There will be a kickball tournament, softball tournaments, horseshoe tournaments, beanbag tournaments, medallion hunt, tractor pull, car show, firemen’s supper, Saturday dance and more. Head out to Rose Creek for a great experience.

4. Clean Water Festival: Clean Water Service Day

All day, Friday, various locations in the Austin area

Celebrate the importance of clean water with this free, family-friendly event. Join the Nature Center staff and community volunteers to work towards keeping the water that we send downstream clean. Just by participating, each individual will earn a free kayak or canoe rental valued at $10 (pre-registration is required). 5. Rose Creek Fire Dept. Windsor Chop Supper

5-8 p.m., Saturday, Rose Creek City Park

The Rose Creek Fire Department will serve its Windsor Chop Supper on Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at the Rose Creek city park.

6. Johnsburg Jamboree

11 a.m.-7 p.m., Sunday, 10343 640th Ave, Adams

The annual family event will feature polka and other music. The event starts at 11 a.m. with polka mass and will continue outside until 7 p.m. There will be music on two dance floors, a bake sale, a cake walk, and food, including: brats, sloppy joe’s, homemade pies and beverages.
