The Austin VFW Post 1216 baseball team beat Winona 3-2 in Marcusen Park Tuesday.

Austin (15-14 overall, 9-3 District) trailed 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning when Pete Conner laid down a bunt with two runners and Post 1216 scored the game-winning run on a throwing error by Winona.

“We found a way to win tonight. The guys never gave up,

but we struggled at the plate tonight,” Austin head coach Mark Conner said. “We left eight on base and missed some opportunities where we needed a key at bat. A win is a win, but at the

plate we need to find some momentum as we are winding down the season and

headed into tournament time.”

Jake Lunt and Jakob Crouch each pitched in the win for Austin as they held Winona to six total hits.
