Dale Madison received a big honor recently when Mayor Tom Stiehm presented him with the key to the city.

Madison, 82, was presented the key after about 18 years of working as a banker and with the Austin/Mower County Home Ownership Fund, helping people get loans for a downpayment assistance program when buying a home. Madison is a resident at Primrose Retirement Community, where he and his wife Shirley have lived since September 2014.

“He felt very honored, very proud of that,” Primrose Executive Director Shannon Pacholl said. “And his family is very proud of him and so are we at Primrose.”

Stiehm and Finance Director Tom Dankert presented the key to the city last week, and Pacholl said Stiehm mentioned he doesn’t give the key out much. Madison donated much of his time to the program over the 18 years he worked with it, and approved millions of dollars of loans.
