Raymond W. Beckman, 104, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, formerly of Waltham, Minnesota, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at Prairie Manor Care Center.
He was born Dec. 14, 1910, in Udolpho Township, Mower County, Minnesota, to Julius and Anna (Boelk) Beckman. Raymond grew up in rural Waltham and attended country grade school. On Feb. 26, 1933, he was united in marriage to Irene Baumgartner in Waltham. The couple farmed in the Waltham area for many years before moving to Austin. They belonged to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. Ray took pride in his 80-acre farm and in keeping a well-manicured lawn and yard. He enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles and playing board games.
Raymond is survived by his son Ronald (Linda) Beckman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his daughter Sandra (Douglas) Novak of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law; three nieces, one nephew, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Julius and Anna Beckman; his wife Irene Beckman in 2008; two infant sons; two sisters: Viola (Ben) Gilderhus, and Gertrude (Elger) Steinbach; and his brother Donald Beckman.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2015, at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in rural Waltham, Minnesota. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in St. Michael’s Lutheran Cemetery. Worlein Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
