Austin police are investigating how a 23-year-old came to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin with a gunshot wound to his foot over the weekend.

Police Capt. Dave McKichan said hospital workers reported the man, from Austin, shortly after midnight on Sunday. According to McKichan, the public was not in danger at any point.

It’s unclear if the man shot himself or if someone else shot the man in the foot, as he has been uncooperative with the police. The man appeared to have been intoxicated when he was taken to the hospital, McKichan said.
