Police are investigating why four or five black males assaulted a bicyclist victim in Austin Wednesday evening.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said the victim rode his bike at Third Avenue and Fifth Street Northwest when one of the men called out to him.

The men spoke to the bicyclist for a little while before one of them dragged him off his bike, grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground.

The victim was acquainted with the suspects, though he didn’t know any of them personally, according to Krueger.

In addition, the victim told police he thought the suspects may have belonged to the Kings of Africa gang.
