Joyce took great pride in her skill and expertise as a secretary and office manager. She worked for a period of time at the old Scheid Plumbing before beginning employment as an executive secretary at Hormel Corporate Office, retiring from there after 19 years.

Upon retirement, Joyce found her true calling and true passion volunteering as a Guardian Ad Litem in the Mower County court system. For more than 10 years, she was a voice and advocate for children who suffered in situations of abuse and neglect. Joyce enjoyed an outstanding reputation in the legal and social services communities and, when necessary, she would march through hell and back for the kids she represented.
