Track and field: Austin’s Gash earns trip to state in triple jump

Austin sophomore Jany Gash made a big splash on the first day of the the Section 1AA track and field meet in Lakeville Thursday.
Gash cleared his previous personal best triple jump by two feet when he jumped a distance of 42 feet, 11.25 inches to take second place in the finals and earn a place in the Class AA state track and field meet.
The Packers advanced six other athletes to Saturday’s finals in Lakeville.
For the boys, Jon Gallagher made it to the 100-meter dash finals, Connor Sheehan is in the 400-meter dash finals and Trent Brown is in the finals in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles races.
For the girls, sophomore Odongoga Oballa is in the 200-meter and 400-meter dash finals, Rachel Quandt is in the 100-meter hurdles finals and Kendall Hackensmith is in the 300-meter hurdles finals.
