Softball: Athletics can’t hang on to early lead

The No. 10 seeded Lyle-Pacelli softball team struck first, but it saw its season come to an end in a 16-3 loss in five innings to No. 7 Glenville-Emmons in a Section 1A West play-in game in Blooming Prairie Monday.

The Athletics (1-14 overall) scored two runs in the top of the first inning to take the lead, but GE scored seven runs by drawing eight walks in the bottom of the first off of eighth grade pitcher Miranda Arkells.

LP had a very young team this season as it started a seventh grader, four eighth graders and two freshmen.

“They let the weather get the best of them and were not ready to play,” LP head coach Jeff Yocom said. “Our pitching and catching has struggled all year, but with more experience it can only get better [next year].”
