ANOKA — A former Minneapolis police officer will be resentenced for luring young girls into sexual encounters.

A Minnesota appeals court agrees with the Anoka County attorney’s office which argued Bradley Schnickel’s 30-month prison term is too short. The 34-year-old Schnickel reached a plea deal and was sentenced last May with the understanding that prosecutors would seek a nearly 12-year sentence. The judge instead imposed the lighter sentence.

The Star Tribune says the county attorney appealed, saying the 30-month sentence understates Schnickel’s crimes.

Schnickel’s attorney says the lighter sentence is justified because his client didn’t use force or a weapon in luring the young girls into sexual relationships. No date has yet been scheduled for resentencing.
