The sixth annual Taste of Nations is back with a new flavor.
The annual multicultural event will be held at El Parral Ballroom from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. This is the first time the Taste of Nations has been held at a venue outside of the Oak Park Mall.
The Oak Park Mall vacated most of its businesses and ceased operations at the end of 2014, which left many community events including the Taste of Nations in search for a new venue.
Yet organizer Miguel Garate found space within El Parral for the event, which will host food and booths from more than 40 countries all represented in the area.
“It is amazing,” Garate said. “It’s a great tradition, and it’s a great opportunity to get to know people from different countries, the flavor, the food, the music.”
Garate said the Taste of Nations will continue to have its traditional entertainment — Latino, Indian and Sudanese music and dancers, among other acts — but the event will also include several new features, such as a mobile health clinic which will read blood pressure and cholesterol, among other things.
“It’s going to be a bunch of different organizations that would like to be a part of this,” Garate said.
