Robert Duane Ackland, 84, of Austin, Minnesota, died Wednesday, April 8, 2015, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Robert was born on March 13, 1931, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to Melvin and Sylvia (Erickson) Ackland. He married Geraldine Baumgartner on Feb. 10, 1951, in Onamia, Minnesota. Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.

In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, yard work and growing roses. He loved to do woodworking, fix and build things and he refurbished all the windows in his house. Bob was a hard worker, he always had a twinkle in his eyes and he had a great smile. He spent many years working as a barber. Later in life, he was the foreman of the buildings and grounds for Austin Public Schools. Bob was a member of the American Legion and Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Robert is survived by his wife Geraldine Ackland, Austin, Minnesota; children: Sandra (Robert) Colbenson, Brainerd, Minnesota, Donald Ackland, Austin, Minnesota, Dale (Jean) Ackland, Austin, Minnesota, Judy Ackland, Austin, Minnesota, and Karen (Tom) Hinkle, Austin, Minnesota; grandchildren: Nicole Colbenson, Travis (Ashley) Colbenson, Derek Hinkle, Jason Hinkle, Amanda Ackland, and Adam Ackland; great-grandchildren: Kenneth, Adrian, and CJ Colbenson; Kaya and Kameron Ackland; half brothers: Fritz Getchell, San Antonio, Texas, and Teddy Getchell, Austin, Minnesota; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 13, at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church with the Rev. David Fleischmann officiating. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service on Monday. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
