Don’t be alarmed when local police and emergency officials converge on I.J. Holton Intermediate School around 1 p.m.
It’s just a drill.
With Austin schools on spring break, emergency service organizations will hold active shooter training at the school.
More than 50 emergency responders will use the school to prepare for an emergency situation in a public building. Employees will be from Austin Police and Fire Departments, Mower County Sheriff’s Department, Emergency Medical Services and neighboring law enforcement agencies.
The training will run from 1 to 5 p.m. Neighbors can expect to see a lot of emergency vehicles and activity inside and outside the building. This is a closed training and no one other than the emergency personnel will be allowed inside the building.
