St. Patrick’s Day was filled with surprises for some Austin residents — in the form of a song.

A trio of Pacelli Catholic School students delivered Paddy-Grams to people all over Austin Tuesday for St. Patrick’s Day. The senior trio — made up of Sarah Kahle, Maggie Leif and Katherine Ethen — delivered a song, a flower and chocolate at the request of friends and loved ones.

“We are out here to spread happiness and the shamrock spirit,” Sarah said with a smile.

The three girls sang to about 25 different people Tuesday. At 1:30 p.m., they made a stop at Sterling Mainstreet, where they sang “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” to Pharmacy Manager John Kluczny.

“It was great, it was wonderful, it was a surprise,” Kluczny laughed.

His gram came from his wife, Donna Kluczny.

Like John, Sarah said most people are pleased to receive a Paddy-Gram.

“They’re all really, really happy about it, and that’s really awesome,” she said.

The students have done Valentine’s Day Grams before, but they did not get the chance this year, so they substituted it for Paddy-Grams. The trio of seniors have been singing together since kindergarten, according to Sarah, so they were excited to get together — and get out of class — for the project.

The delivery went from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, and the Paddy-Grams raised funds to support Pacelli’s choir program.
