MINNEAPOLIS — The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to whoever left a puppy to die in a burning trash bin in northern Minnesota.
The Humane Society announced the reward Friday. The 5-month-old husky mix was rescued Feb. 20 from a garbage dump bin on the Red Lake Indian Reservation.
A man says he found the puppy in the bin while dropping off trash. The dog, now called Phoenix, is being cared for by a Twin Cities veterinarian.
The Star Tribune reports the puppy was also malnourished and faces two to four months of treatment for his burns.
Police on the reservation have not determined who put the puppy in the trash bin and left him there to burn.
