Book group thanks retiring librarian

Who is cheerful, easy-going, knowledgeable, thoughtful, smiling, organized, talented in so many areas and fun? Gayle Heimer!

Gayle is retiring from her work as a professional librarian at our Austin Public Library and Austin Page Turners wants to give a big thank you to her for the 10 years she was a member of our committee.

Gayle joined APT in our second year when we featured Tim O’Brien and she helped each year until 2012 when Ron Handberg was the author for our city-wide book read.

Each year Gayle coordinated the library functions that go along with the chosen book. She printed the publicity, had the library purchase several copies of each book, set up the library display, hosted the author luncheon, built the APT website … the list goes on and on.

She even endured some physical damage for APT in 2005 when Patricia Hampl was the featured author! A table she was moving after the luncheon at the library fell on her foot and she broke some toes and had to miss Patricia’s evening presentation.

Gayle always had great insights into the books as we were choosing the one that we would feature. She was willing to step in and help wherever it was needed. And the friendship that we have with Gayle is something we Page Turners are very thankful for.

Thank you, Gayle. You can feel a great sense of pride and accomplishment for your work with Austin Page Turners.
