The Austin girls track and field team opened its season with some strong performances in Faribault Tuesday.
The Packers excelled despite having 25 athletes gone due to spring break and a class trip.
“We had a lot of underclassmen step up and they showed a lot of poise and maturity,” Austin head coach Nancy Jones said.
Rachel Quandt took first in the 100-meter hurdles for Austin, Kendal Hackensmith won the 300-meter hurdles and Alex Hansen won the high jump.
The Packer 4 x 200-meter relay team of Chloe Sheehan, Brooke Goligowski, Isabelle Reuter and Odongonga Oballa took first.
Adam Bergstrom won the 300-meter hurdles for the Austin boys team and Connor Sheehan won the 200-meter dash.
