State wrestling: BP’s Nirk loses quarterfinal match

The Blooming Prairie wrestling team had mixed results for two of its wrestlers who were competing in their first Class A state meet at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul Friday.
One of them picked up a his first state meet win and the other had his day end early.
BP senior Zach Nirk scored an 8-5 win over Garrett Schanus of Howard Lake-Waverly Winsted, but he lost his quarterfinal match 1-0 to Ian Morrison of Chatfield.
Nirk had a chance to move up in the wrestlebacks.
BP freshman Ethan Arett lost his first match when he was pinned by Tanner Schermerhorn with 53 seconds left in the match and Arett did not receive a wrestleback match.
Both of Hayfield’s wrestlers lost their first match at state.
Junior Dylan Arndt trailed Karter VanHeuveln of Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg just 1-0 in the third period but Arndt was pinned with 23 seconds left in the match while trying to escape.
Arndt received a wrestleback match.
Sophomore Jackson Heydt lost 18-7 to Jace Geving of Deer River and he did not receive a wresleback.
