A 23-year-old LeRoy man is dead after a fatal crash involving a semi and a car on Highway 63 near mile marker 26 Wednesday morning.

According to a Minnesota State Patrol report, Derek Soltau was killed at about 8:23 a.m. Wednesday when his 2004 Chevrolet Impala collided with a 2007 International Tractor semi driven by Mario Salinas, 58, of Arlington, Texas. Salinas was uninjured in the crash.

Salinas was traveling northbound on Highway 63 while Soltau was driving southbound when the vehicles collided. The roads were icy at the time of the crash and no alcohol was involved, according to the state patrol. Both drivers wore seat belts.

The Mower County Sheriff’s Office, Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office, Stewartville Fire Department and the Minnesota Department of Transportation were at the scene.
