The No. 5 seeded Grand Meadow boys basketball team made a late surge, but it wasn’t enough as it lost 60-58 to No. 4 Randolph (18-5 overall) in a Section 1A West quarterfinal game in Randolph Thursday.
The Superlarks (16-9 overall) trailed by 13 points with six minutes to go and they pulled within two, but they couldn’t get any closer.
“We battled back, but we just couldn’t get tied or get ahead,” GM head coach Bob Brumester said. “Our boys played extremely hard and they didn’t give up. We could’ve crumbled down the stretch.”
GM 28 30 — 58
Randolph 30 30 — 60
GM scoring: Landon Jacobson, 16; Michael Stejskal, 14; Terrell Rieken, 10; Cody Ojulu, 7; Connor King, 5; Reid Bushmann, 6; free throws: 64 percent (9-for-14)
