The Battling for Bennett benefit for Jim Bennett held on Saturday raised about $15,000.

Jim was diagnosed with stage-four colon cancer last December. His brother Tony Bennett said the event went well.

“I thought it went very well; pleased with the turnout and very grateful for the people that showed up and showed their support,” Tony said.

The benefit was held Saturday at the Riverside Arena. The benefit featured hockey games all day and chances to win prizes. The Austin Packer pep band played for a few hours, and sound and music was done by Brian Schultz from the Austin Bruins. A chili feed was also held. Brandi Halsey, who has known the Bennett family for about 14 years through their sons’ hockey games, organized the event. Jim and his family have owned Old 218 for many years. Tony said his brother handled the benefit well.

“He seemed very well,” Tony said. “I think he sometimes handles it better than the rest of the family. Kind of a trooper, I guess.”

The money raised from the benefit will go toward Bennett’s medical expenses.
