Patrick Michael ‘Pat’ McGuire, 66, of Austin, died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, surrounded by his loving family at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, St. Marys Campus.

He was born Feb. 19, 1948, in Austin, Minnesota, to James and Alice (Dahl) McGuire. Pat grew up in Austin, graduating from Austin High School in 1966. He served his country in the U.S. Army for four years, and attended Mankato State University for two years. On Oct. 12, 1976, he went to work for the City of Austin as an operator at the waste water treatment plant, retiring on June 30, 2013. On May 22, 1992, Pat married Judy Ruud. A member of the Eagle’s Club in Austin, Pat enjoyed fishing, playing horseshoes, and taking occasional trips to Laughlin and Las Vegas, Nevada. When he was younger he was a member of Golden Gloves, and enjoyed boxing.

Survivors include his wife Judy McGuire of Austin; his daughters: Jessica (Chelsea) McGuire of Eagan, Minnesota, and Kellee (Chad) Kirby of Nashville, Tennessee; his step-son Scott Ruud of Minneapolis; four grandchildren: Sawyer, Jace, Mackenzee, and Jake; his mother Alice McGuire of St. Anthony, Minnesota; siblings: Tim McGuire of Park Rapids, Minnesota, Clancy McGuire of St. Michael, Minnesota, Anne (Jerry) Albrecht of Zimmerman, Minnesota; his mother-in-law Audrey Guritz; brother-in-law Jerry (Mac) Guritz, sisters-in-law: Jean (Roger) Slowinski, and Janet Olson; a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father James McGuire; his brother Michael McGuire; his father-in-law Max Guritz; and his stepson Jim Ruud.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 22 at Worlein Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service on Friday. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 91. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorials be directed to the McGuire family. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
