Leone McKee, 91, of Austin, died Friday, Jan. 9, 2015, at St. Mark’s Assisted Living, Austin.

Leone Mae Florand was born Aug. 19, 1923, in Parshall, North Dakota, to Martin and Bessie (Lyson) Florand. Her mother died when Leone was 1 year old. She was raised in Grand Meadow by her aunt and uncle, Eva and George Florand. She was confirmed at Bear Creek Lutheran church. After attending country school and Racine schools, Leone graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1942. Following high school, she moved to Austin and worked at Hormel Foods for five years. On May 9, 1945, she married George McKee of Chester, Iowa, at Bear Creek Lutheran Church in Grand Meadow. The couple was married for 53 years and raised four daughters. Leone was a member of the Moose Club, where she served as senior regent in the early 1970s. She also belonged to the V.F.W. and the American Legion.

Leone is survived by her daughters: Jenell (Kenneth) Warner of Owatonna, Minnesota, Linda (Larry) Kvenvold of Alexandria, Minnesota, Diane (Melvin) Kvam of Austin, Minnesota, and Dawn Kennedy of Rochester, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and one more due in April 2015.

She was preceded in death by her birth parents Martin and Bessie Florand; her adoptive parents George and Eva Florand; her husband George McKee in 1999; two grandchildren: Rebecca Kvenvold and Luke Kennedy; her son-in-law John Kennedy; two sisters: Elaine Florand, and Vivian Martin; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with Pastor Ray Tuck officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Bear Creek Cemetery, Grand Meadow. Worlein Funeral Home of Austin is assisting the family with arrangements.
