The Austin City Council is set to discuss whether to raise street reconstruction assessment rates during a work session Monday night.

Paving assessment rates could increase by about 2.9 percent under the city of Austin’s recommendation. A rate adjustment for sidewalk, curb and gutter, rural and mill and overlay rates could take place as well.

Austin residents payed about 33.7 percent of adjacent street construction costs in 2014, which is slightly lower than what assessed residents paid in 2013. The city is working toward getting assessed residents to pay for 40 to 50 percent of street construction project costs.
