The Blooming Prairie boys basketball team led for most of the night, but it wasn’t enough as the Awesome Blossoms lost to Maple River (11-2 overall, 3-1 Gopher) 71-70 on the road Friday.
The Awesome Blossoms (7-6 overall, 2-4 Gopher) led by five with 15 seconds to go, but a couple of turnovers cost BP as Maple River won the game on a tip-in at the buzzer.
“In spite of the loss, I am very proud of the way we battled tonight with a very good team,” BP head coach John Bruns said. “We overcame a ten plus point first half deficit, foul trouble, a rowdy home crowd and gave ourselves a chance to win the game.”
John Rumpza had 29 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and four assists for BP and Anthony Nelson had 20 points, seven assists, eight rebounds and seven steals.
