Throwing back to the classics

Who doesn’t love a good throwback?

There’s a reason we hashtag a day of the week in honor of our old photos.

#ThrowbackThursday provides us a regular window to enjoy and share the glow of those good old days. (And yes, even the teens and 20-somethings have good old days.)

We like to celebrate Throwback Thursdays with old movies — from cult classics to pure classics. What better way to pay homage to the past and give a nod to the Paramount’s history as a first-run movie theatre?

The theme of our 2015 film series is “Made in Minnesota.” It’s all about roots — the ones we put down, specifically. Because the only thing better than an old movie is an old movie made in Minnesota.

We kick things off on Jan. 8 with “Grumpy Old Men.” The comedy features Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau as two curmudgeonly neighbors who’ve been at each other’s throats for years. I don’t mean to be ordering anyone around, but if you haven’t seen it (or even if you have), get there.

The series continues with a few highly quotable flicks, with “The Mighty Ducks” on Feb. 19, “Drop Dead Gorgeous” on April 16, and “Angus” on May 14. Admission to each movie is $5, and each screening starts at 7 p.m. For more info on the series, visit austinareaarts.org.
