Sixth-graders donate 100-plus items

I.J. Holton Intermediate School sixth-graders have donated more than 100 items to the Mower County Humane Society during a recent fundraising drive.

The sixth-graders participated in the PROJECT PAWS initiative, which teachers say stemmed from the book “Cages,” by Peg Kehret. Students wanted to volunteer after reading about a character who got in trouble and performed community service at a humane society.

I.J. Holton students researched the humane society’s needs and gathered items over two and a half weeks to donate.
