St. Paul Saints old home to get sanitized

ST. PAUL — The St. Paul Saints old home is about to get an industrial-grade scrubbing.
The Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development is devoting $1.25 million toward a pollution cleanup on the site of Midway Stadium. That was the minor league team’s home field until the coming season, when a new stadium opens downtown.
The site was a dumping ground decades ago, so pollutants need to be removed before an industrial building goes up on the land. Minnesota Public Radio News reported Wednesday that the pollutants need to be dealt with so construction can begin in 2016.
The St. Paul Port Authority is working with United Properties on a building big enough for four to five tenants on the 13-acre property.
Pollution grants totaling $4.16 million were announced Tuesday.
