The Hayfield girls basketball team had Kenyon-Wanamingo right where it wanted them, but it couldn’t finish the job as it lost 71-63 in triple overtime in Hayfield Friday.

The No. 8 ranked Vikings (3-2 overall, 1-1 HVL), who had their season end in a loss to KW last year, led by seven points in the second overtime, but the Knights (4-1 overall, 2-0 HVL) came back and forced a third OT.

“Both teams are better of from playing each other. It’s one of those you hate to lose. We had the game won in the second overtime,” Hayfield head coach Fred Kindschy said. “They’re free throw shooting definitely won the game for them. We rebounded with them, considering they’re the better team, we just didn’t shoot well.”
