The city of Austin’s newest employee has only been on the job for a week, but he’s off to a strong start according to city officials.
City Administrator Craig Clark was sworn in Monday at the Austin City Council meeting as Austin’s top city employee. Clark started on Dec. 8, but he has been busy meeting with city staff, area residents and various committees.
“We believe he’s going to be a great addition to this board,” Austin Port Authority Chairman Jerry McCarthy said.
Clark, 44, is the former city administrator of Worthington, Minnesota. He took the job opening in Austin because of the city’s growth opportunities, Vision 2020 improvement projects and its reputation for flood mitigation.
“I look forward to working hard for the city of Austin,” he said Monday.
Clark worked in Worthington for six years and in Clayton, Wisconsin, for three years as the town administrator. Before that, he worked at the Minnesota and U.S. House of Representatives for a number of years.
