Austin gymnasts put up best score of season

The Austin gymnastics team tallied a season-high score of 141.6 as it beat Mankato East and Mankato West in Mankato Thursday.

West had a score of 137.3 and East had a score of 125.5

Austin’s Maddie Mullenbach won the all-around and she also took first in the bars, beam and floor. Abby Bickler was second in all-around.

“The girls did really well,” Austin head coach Alex Bade said. “They definitely improved from their first two meets and they were having a lot of fun tonight. We’re improving slowly but surely, we’ve got a lot of work to do. We just have to keep girding away.”

The Packers were competing without senior Carolyn Hackel, who injured her foot last week and will be out for awhile.

“We had to rely on some other girls and it was nice to see we can improve with one our top gymnasts out,” Bade said.
