The Austin boys hockey team lost its season opener 4-1 at LeSeuer-Henderson/St. Peter Thursday.
The Packers (0-1 overall) tied the game at 1-1 when Dan Larson scored a short-handed goal on an assist from Jace Greenman in the first period, but that was all the damage they could do. Austin allowed two second period goals and it couldn’t get back in the game.
There was a total of 23 penalties and LSHSP managed just one power play goal.
“It was just power play mania,” Austin head coach Erik LaRock said. “We didn’t get to play five-on-five very much. We controlled the puck real well during our power plays, but we just couldn’t get goals.”
Austin had 34 shots in the loss and Jacob Johnson stopped 29 saves for the Packers.
“I was really pleased with how we played and the score doesn’t indicate how we played,” LaRock said.
