Lois Elaine Placek, 93, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.

Lois was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, on Oct. 16, 1921, to Faville and Ella (Madson) Barneck. She married Richard Placek on Oct. 5, 1942. Lois was a homemaker and raised five children. She loved to garden, knit and sew. She was a member of Queen of Angels Catholic Church.

Lois loved children and was always taking care of her grandchildren and her children’s friends. They all thought of her as a second mom. She was gifted with a great sense of humor. There was always laughter in the room when she was there. Up until her passing, she was still making people laugh.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Placek; sons: David Placek, and James Placek; and sister-in-law Virgina Prange.

Lois is survived by her daughters: Patricia (Roy) Taylor, Flora Vista, New Mexico, Pamela (Arnold) Schwamm, Wabasha, Minnesota, and Amy Placek, Blooming Prairie, Minnesota; daughter-in-law Karen Placek; grandchildren: Jason (Manuela) Libersky, Michelle (Timothy) Davis, Derek Placek, Allison (Taryn) Sellers, Kimberly Placek, Melissa Placek (Jason Brossoit), Alan Adams (Megan) and Alex Enright; great-grandchildren: Michael Davis, Jacob Davis, Rayanna Placek, Gabrielle Brossoit, Shelby Brossoit, Mason Brossoit and Anton Libersky; sister Betty Derby, Kasson, Minnesota; brother Kenneth Barneck, Taiwan; brother-in-law Kenneth (Doreen) Placek, Castaic, California; nieces, nephews; and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Rev. Elizabeth Endicott officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service.
