A 23-year-old Austin man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly fled from police in his car and then on foot.

Police Chief Brian Krueger said officers recognized the suspect, whose license was canceled, as he drove on Main Street South at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. Police caught up to the man at the 200 block of Main Street South and tried to stop him, but the man drove two blocks away, parked in a driveway and got out of the car.

Officers told him to stop fleeing, but Krueger said the man took off through several backyards. Police arrested him a short time later at the 500 block of Third Street Southwest.
