President Beryl Sprung opened the meeting with 11 members, reading the Collect and answered roll call, “Someone special in your life.”

Old business included in the minutes of the last meeting which were approved. Monthly dues of $1 began in October.

“Thank you” notes had been sent; and Don Peterson had pictures with a copy for each member. Thanks again Don. A note was read from the Hayfield Study Club.

Our new business was the welcome of new member Shelly Vogel. Two birthdays were observed: Beryl on Oct. 18, and Rena on Oct. 26. Fern Paschke had the main topic on the dollar bill. Each member was given a dollar bill printed in 1957, made of a cotton and linen blend with red and blue silk fibers.

The many symbols were explained. Benjamin Franklin and a group of men came up with the Seal of the United States, which took them four years.

Hazel Schlichting had the outside reading on the colors of autumn from the 2015 “Farmer’s Almanac.” Leaves are factories for making food from carbon dioxide, light and water. We share the same fall colors as Japan.
