Janet (Unverzagt) Koch, 69, of Lyle, Minnesota, passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at Koda Living Community in Owatonna, Minnesota, with her family at her side.

Janet Marie Unverzagt was born Sept. 26, 1945, in Austin, Minnesota, to Eldon and Virginia (Wolfe) Unverzagt. She attended Austin Public Schools, graduating from Austin High School in 1963. Following her graduation, Janet attended Austin Junior College. She worked as a secretary, holding various secretarial positions over the years. On April 7, 1979, Janet married Wally Koch in Watertown, South Dakota. The couple had two sons. Janet was widowed at a young age and worked several jobs as a single mother raising two young boys. She lived in the metro area for over 40 years, and then returned to the Austin area to be near family after being diagnosed with ALS in 2010. Her favorite pastimes included casino trips, reading, visiting with people and being outdoors. She lived her life for her two sons.

Janet is survived by her son Kory Koch of Belle Plaine, Minnesota; her brother Edward (Linda) Unverzagt of Brownsdale, Minnesota; three sisters: Judith (Mike) Ehlert of Nevada, Jean (Darrell) Crews of Austin, and Jennifer (Craig) Thompson, also of Austin; one grandson Dalton; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Eldon and Virginia Unverzagt; her husband Wally; her son Kyle in 2014; and a brother Stephen in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with the Rev. Jonathan Unverzagt officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. immediately preceding the service. Interment will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Prior Lake, Minnesota, on Monday. Memorials in Janet’s memory can be directed to the Koch family. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
