Elvern Herbert Mees, 82, of Elkton, Minnesota, died Monday, Oct. 6, 2014, at his home.

Elvern was born on June 4, 1932, in Amboy, Minnesota, to Herbert and Sophie (Kietzer) Mees. He attended Elkton High School and in 1950, he joined the U.S. Navy where he served until 1954. On Oct. 15, 1955, he married Beverly Davis at the Dexter Methodist Church. In addition to working at IBM from 1958 to 1968, Elvern farmed in the Dexter and Elkton area from 1955 until his retirement in 1995. Elvern and Beverly spent many winters in Mission, Texas. He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Elkton and of the Adams American Legion Post No. 146.

In his spare time, he loved to golf, fish, bowl, play softball, travel, work in the shop, and collect John Deere tractors.

He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Sophie Mees; brother Wayne; infant sister Donna, sisters Marian and Vallene; and his son Gary.

Elvern is survived by his wife, Beverly Mees, Elkton, Minnesota; children: Patti and Marv Lloyd, Cameron, Wisconsin, Del and Tammy Mees, Dexter, Minnesota, Debbie and Chris Farrell, Austin, Minnesota, Vern and Jody Mees, Byron, Minnesota; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Elkton with the Rev. Liz Erickson officiating. Interment will be at Dexter Cemetery with Adams American Legion Post No. 146 in charge of military rites. Visitation will be at the Adams Funeral Home on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and at the church on Friday morning for one hour before the service.
