ST. PAUL — Minnesota Democrats are objecting to a Republican mailer attacking DFL House members running for re-election.
The mailing criticizes DFL lawmakers for voting for an expungement bill that passed last session with broad bipartisan support.
The Star Tribune reports the mailers target about a half-dozen DFL House members. The mailers were sent by the Republican Party of Minnesota and are not authorized by any specific candidate.
Previously, people who received an expungement were still turned away from jobs because their criminal record was still available through other searches. The new law gives judges the authority to expunge all records, but applies only to nonviolent offenses.
