Craig ‘Gordy’ Olson, 68

Craig “Gordy” Olson, 68, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014, at Mayo Clinic Hospital-Rochester, Saint Marys Campus.

141020.GordyOlsonHe was born April 14, 1946, to Austin to Arthur and Beulah (Harklau) Olson. Gordy attended school in Austin and Hayfield and was employed by Austin Achievement, now Cedar Valley, doing janitorial work. He liked to keep active and he enjoyed outings, watching TV game shows, and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. Gordy was a very special person to his family. His favorite times were those spent with family. While living at the Twin Towers Apartments, Gordy attended St. Olaf Lutheran Church and was a founding member of the People Needing People organization. In 2001, Gordy retired from his job, and then moved to Prairie Sky Apartments in 2002. He considered the staff and residents of Prairie Sky as part of his family. In 2008, he gave a special talk in front of the congregation of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, where he was a charter member. During that talk, Gordy spoke of what God meant to him.

Gordy is survived by his siblings: Roberta (Robert) Finneseth of Austin, Sharon Schwendemann of Burnsville, Minnesota, and Michael Olson of Oskaloosa, Iowa; sister-in-law Mary Olson of Austin; nieces, nephews; cousins; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Beulah Olson; his twin brother Gregory Olson in 2013; and his sister Debbie Marie in 1968.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, 2014, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with Pastor Karen Behling officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 1, at the church. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Oakland, Minnesota. Memorials can be directed to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Prairie Sky Apartments, or recipient of donor’s choice. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Funeral Home of Austin. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
