Austin area could see snow this weekend

Get ready to bundle up this weekend as a cold snap hits the area and may create snowflakes.
According to National Weather Service Meteorologist Zack Taylor, Austin is likely to see a cold snap this weekend, with highs in the upper 40 degrees on Friday and Saturday, and highs around 50 degrees on Sunday. Friday afternoon will also see strong gusts of wind at about 35 to 40 mph.
There is a chance for snow on Friday evening, where precipitation meeting cold weather could create some flurries. But the snow will not be anything that will accumulate or stick to the ground, according to Taylor, and the precipitation should be moving away by the time the cold comes, with just a small overlap.
“More just conversational snowflakes mixed in,” Taylor said.
Compared to normal temperatures, this weekend will be about 15 to 20 degrees below normal.
“It’s going to be feeling a lot colder especially compared to last weekend,” Taylor said.
Over the next few weeks, the trend looks to be below normal for upper middle west Minnesota, although precipitation will be above normal, showering the region with above-normal rainfall. The temperature will be almost average for the year, but Mower County may see a few cold snaps periodically throughout the next few weeks.
