Area’s best bartenders strut their talents in competition

The time is again here for bartenders in the area to show what skills they have behind the bar when the Hormel Historic Home holds its annual Best Bartenders of Mower County at 6 p.m. tonight.
“It’s very energized, upbeat and very festive,” said HHH executive director Holly Johnson. “It’s a friendly competition and allows the bartenders to perform and engage the crowd.”
There are eight areas of judging including signature drink, blindfold pour, best martini, showmanship, stumper drink, wine bottle opening, best bloody mary and fastest 10 mixed drinks. Adding to that will be the crowd-voted favorite, which adds 20 points to a bartender’s score.
“The crowd does make a difference in the outcome,” Johnson said.
The event has shown its popularity as it goes into its third year. The first year drew 100 people with the second year drawing 160 people.
Cover charge for the event is $5, but Johnson is quick to note this isn’t a fundraiser for the HHH. Instead it’s more of a spotlight on what the area has to offer.
“This event brings attention to lots of other facilities in town,” Johnson said.
Last year’s winner was Sara Srsen of Sweets Hotel in LeRoy, Minnesota while the first year’s winner was Adam Wradislavsky.
