The Mower County 4-H Spooky Horse Show is wrapping up 4-H’s horse showing year with a party this Saturday.
“This is kind of like the year end party,” volunteer Amy Lammey said.
The show will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday at the fairgrounds arena, and will host 12 classes, including a halter costume parade, boo-manship — which is showmanship where participants can stay in costume — goblin goblet junior/senior walk/trot — where participants carry a glass of water while riding their horse without spilling — spider junior/senior western pleasure — which is a ride just for pleasure — eyeball egg and spoon, witches brew, howling barrels, skeleton junior/senior poles — which is regular pole bending — and headless horseman lead, where the adults ride and the children lead. There will be prizes for each category.
This is a first-time party open to all 4-H children across Minnesota.
“[We’re] excited to see how many kids show up,” Lammey said. “Just to get kids out and let them have fun, and dress up their horses for Halloween.”
Parent volunteer help is needed to make this show a success.
“Parents are encouraged to help throughout the whole thing, it just makes it go faster and smoother,” Lammey said.
For questions, email Lammey at amyl@co.mower.mn.us. Because this is a 4-H sponsored event, helmets are required when mounted and closed-toe shoes are required.
“We just want the kids all to come and have fun,” Lammey said.
