MINNEAPOLIS — The arrest of a man suspected of fatally shooting his former boyfriend and business partner in Minnesota has brought elation and relief to an Iowa family.

Thursday’s arrest in the Minneapolis suburb of Shakopee marked the end of a month-long manhunt for Lyle “Ty” Hoffman, who’s charged with second-degree murder in the Aug. 11 shooting death of Kelly Phillips at a gas station in another Twin Cities suburb.

The victim’s father, James Phillips, of Mason City, Iowa, says it’s been a month of “up and down, up and down” for him, his wife, and their four surviving children.

He expressed gratitude for all the support they’ve received from law enforcement, political leaders, their community in Mason City and all the tributes that have poured in for their son.
