Get to know: Austin volleyball player Trista Akkerman

Q: How did you originally get into your sport?

A: I started playing tennis in sixth grade, but the first day of practice I decided I didn’t like it and I switched to volleyball.

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

A: My favorite sports memory would be our volleyball pump up we do before games.

Q: What have you learned from playing sports?

A: I’ve learned how to work with others as a team and to keep going and stay positive when things get tough.

Q: What is the hardest part about your sport?

The hardest part about volleyball would have to be the mental part, It’s hard to just shake something off when you mess up, but it’s important to brush it off so you can move on and improve your next play.

Q: Who is your biggest sports role model and why?

A:  My biggest sports role model is Lisa Bue.  She used to play basketball for Austin and then she played for the NDSU Bison. I remember meeting her at a basketball camp when I was little, and I wanted to be really good at something like she was.

Q: What is your favorite movie or TV show?

A: My favorite show is “Friends.”

Q: What is your favorite subject in school?

A: My favorite school subjects are choir and language arts.

Q: What is your dream job?

A:My dream job is to be the person who picks out the music that goes in movies.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: My favorite food is pizza rolls!
