Vesel family has fun at Motokazie

Isaac Vesel of Austin hadn’t participated in a Supercross race in five years, and his younger sister Alexa, hadn’t competed in a Supercross race ever. They were both competing at the Motokazie Supercross Series at the Mower County Fair Tuesday.

Isaac, who is 20-years old, took fourth place in the 250C, and his sister Alexa, who is 7 years old, finished both of her races in the Shift and Shaft Division. Alexa had just been riding for a month before Tuesday.

Isaac said he has always ridden with his family members.

“The more family orientated it is, the more fun it is. When you can spend time with your family out here, it’s always fun,” Isaac said. “It’s always kind of been a hobby of ours. It’s really time consuming and it’s costly, but if you love it. It’s definitely a good time, especially with family.”

Isaac has been riding Supercross bikes since he was five years old, but he hasn’t been riding competitively lately. Most of his rides have been casual runs with his family on the weekends, but Isaac was glad to get one actual race in this summer.

“I was excited, but there are a lot of nerves that go into it,” he said. “It was a great time.”

Isaac, who is the son of AHS head football coach Brett Vesel, spent much of his summer preparing for his sophomore season at University of Minnesota-Duluth. Isaac, who plays on the defensive line, is hoping to make a splash with the team this fall after he missed much of last season due to a

“I’m hoping to play in every game and get back in there and do some damage this year,” Isaac said.

Jon Masching of Hayfield took third in the 250C.

In other races, Nate Kohnke took third in the Pro race, Tyler Becvar of Hayfield took second in the Quad Open B, Cody Bergstrom of Lansing took second in the 450C and Tyler Strobel of Blooming Prairie took third in the 450C.
