An Austin business set to close could remain open under new ownership.

Norm Blaser confirmed someone is attempting to purchase Quiznos from Norm and his wife, Marlene.

“We’ve had a buyer come foreword that is extremely interested,” he said.

The Blasers had announced plans to close Quiznos, 1702 17th St. NW, Suite H, this month unless a buyer came forward.

While the potential buyer is working with a bank on a plan to purchase the restaurant, Norm said there’s still many details to finalize with the bank, the property owner and the Quiznos corporation, though he added the buyer is pre-approved by Quiznos.

The Blasers plan to keep the store open at least into September, so the business never closes if the deal is finalized. If the deal goes through, the the new owner would undergo five weeks of training and could take over in September or October.

Quiznos opened in 1999 in Austin, and the Blasers have received several recognitions and awards since they took over in 2005. Quiznos was named 2011 Austin Area Chamber of Commerce Business of the Year.

The couple previously told the Herald they plan to retire for personal reasons, as Marlene has diabetic retinopathy, a symptom of diabetes that can eventually lead to blindness.
