Marvin Cecil Betlach, 88

Marvin Cecil Betlach, 88, formerly of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at St. Therese Nursing Home in New Hope, Minnesota.



He was born Nov. 26, 1925, at his rural Blooming Prairie home, to William and Katherine (Bina) Betlach. He was raised on the family farm and made his living as a farmer in the Blooming Prairie area until his retirement. Marvin served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea before his discharge in 1948. On Feb. 15, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Klemmensen at Geneva Community Lutheran Church. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Bixby, Minnesota. Marvin enjoyed his time gardening and playing cards. In November 2005, Marvin moved from Blooming Prairie to the Twin Cities to be closer to his family.

Survivors include his sons, Roger (Mary) Betlach, of Crystal, Minnesota; and Ronald (Marilyn) Betlach, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Peggy, Timothy, Amy, and Dustin; six great-grandchildren; and his niece, Marlene Steen, of Freeborn, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Katherine Betlach; his wife, Marjorie, in May of 2000; and his sister, Blanche Srsen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014, at First Lutheran Church in Blooming Prairie, with Pastor Jonathan Davis of Trinity Lutheran officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service. Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Bixby, Minnesota. Memorials can be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church in Bixby, Prairie Manor Care Center, or recipient of donor’s choice. Services prearranged and performed by Worlein Blooming Prairie Funeral Home.
