Loretta Mae was born Feb. 23, 1915, in Freeborn County, Minnesota, to Joseph and Anna (Cerny) Prihoda. Loretta attended Austin High School. She was united in marriage to Anton Lukes in Glenville, Minnesota, on Aug. 19, 1931. Loretta and Anton had three children, Donna, Rita, and Marcine, before Anton’s passing on July 22, 1937. Loretta married Milo “Mike” Prantner on Jan. 8, 1943, in Colorado, and was blessed with a fourth daughter, Suzanne. Loretta worked at Wilson’s during the war, and clerked and waitressed over the years. Following her husband’s return home from military duty, Loretta and Mike farmed many years throughout Freeborn, Steele and Mower Counties. In 1963 they moved to Blooming Prairie where they owned and operated Mike’s Place. For several years Loretta also enjoyed working at Harriet’s Dres-Wel in Blooming Prairie. Her husband Mike passed away on Nov. 3, 1990, and in 1991 Loretta moved to Austin’s Pickett Place. Loretta was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Austin, Austin American Legion Auxiliary, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary in Austin. She enjoyed bowling, cards, bingo, casino trips, crocheting, family get togethers, volunteering at the American Legion Hall on “sandwich night,” and following her beloved Minnesota Twins!
