Loren D. Stanton, 87, of Austin, Minnesota, died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at the Grand Meadow Care Center, Grand Meadow, Minnesota.

Loren was born Jan. 20, 1927, near Lyle, Minnesota, to Clead and Fannie (Houseman) Stanton. He attended school in Lyle and entered the United States Navy in 1944. While in the Navy, Loren proudly served on the USS Orizaba and the USS Pledge until his honorable discharge in 1947. Loren married Roberta Barr on Oct. 22, 1949, at Wykoff, Minnesota. He worked for the Geo. A. Hormel Company for 35 years.

Loren was a member of the Austin American Legion Post No. 91 and he was a faithful member of Crane Community Chapel for over 60 years.

Loren liked to bowl and golf and he especially loved his trips to St. Ansgar with his golfing buddies. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing with his two sons.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters.

Loren is survived by his wife of 64 years, Roberta Stanton, Austin, Minnesota; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Stanton, River Falls, Wisconsin, Craig and Linda Stanton, Waconia, Minnesota; three grandchildren, Katie, Anna and Kurt; brothers, Don Stanton, Austin, Minnesota, Jerry (Gretchen) Stanton, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Norman (Susan) Stanton, Hartsdale, New York; nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Crane Community Chapel with the Rev. Dale R. Christiansen officiating. Interment will be at the London Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service. Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family prefers memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Honorary bearers will be Don Hall, Ron Merten, Duane Stanton, Donald Hodges, Edsel Sprung and Bill Bell.
