The county board picked a temporary leader for Mower County’s largest department.

The board voted 4-0, with Mike Ankeny absent, to appoint Community Health Director Lisa Kocer as the interim director of health and human services Tuesday, effective Aug 16.

Current Director Julie Stevermer resigned and finishes her tenure Aug. 15.

“Thank you for your vote of confidence,” Kocer told the board. “I’m sure we’re going to move forward just fine.”

The board appointed Kocer for up to six months as it and the human resources department examine options for the next director.

On top of her regular salary, Kocer will receive a $300 stipend every other week for her added duties, and she’ll have $5,000 to spend on temporary staff to fill in. Both are a portion of the cost savings from the $20,000 to $25,000 of budget savings from Stevermer’s salary and benefits after her resignation, according to Coordinator Craig Oscarson.

She’ll be expected to make monthly reports on how she’s spending the funds.
